We seem to have found our happy place this year, as far as our main curriculum is concerned. In the past we’d start a program and find that it just didn’t fit well for us. So we would change things around and end up with a hodge-podge year.
Thankfully we found My Fathers World (MFW) last year and loved it! We loved it so much that we continued with their program this year and plan to use it next year as well!
Miss E is in grade one this year and uses MFW’s grade one package, Learning God’s Story. It is a complete first grade curriculum that uses a phonics-based reading program, focusing on the Bible. I find it to be a nice gentle program but still very effective for teaching.
J-Man is in fourth grade this year and is using MFW’s Creation To The Greeks program. It provides a firm foundation for the study of history, showing how the Bible accounts fit in with other civilizations such as Egypt, Greece, and Babylon.
For math he is using Jump Math. It is a good math program, but it’s not quite the best fit for him personally, a bit too workbook heavy. I think we might be going back to Teaching Textbooks for next year but we haven’t settled on a program yet.
We’ve also signed up both of the kids for their own monthly box from KiwiCrate. To see my review of our KiwiCrate boxes, click here.
So that is what we’ve been using this year. Next year both kids will be working on the same curriculum together, but at their own levels.
I’d love to hear about what programs you are using at home with your own children. Let me know in the comment section below!
