If you have young children, you undoubtedly know how much they love stories! My children (5, 10 and 14) all like to read before bed each night, and we are avid visitors to the library so that we have new stories to read each night. But sometimes you just can’t make it to the library, and then you end up out of books to read. This is not a good situation to find yourself in 5 minutes before bedtime!

This is where One More Story comes in to save the day! One More Story is a website and app with a library of wonderful books. We were fortunate enough to be able to review their service and share it with you.

One More Story Bookshelf

What’s it all about?

One More Story can be accessed either through their website (from a computer or other capable device) or their iOS app. Inside you will find “bookshelves” full of wonderful books to choose from. These include some great classics as well as some new books we hadn’t heard of yet.

There are two options to choose from when reading a book. The first is to Read Along, where the book will be read aloud to your child, this is great for your youngest children who aren’t yet reading on their own. The other option is I Can Read It, where your child can read the story themselves. This is also a good option if you’d like to read the story to them yourself.

Each option includes the actual artwork from the books, and you turn the pages when you are ready to move on to the next one. The Read Along option is set to original music from the former music director of Sesame Street!

More Features

In the Read Along mode, the words are highlighted on the screen as they are read. This can help your child to connect the spoken and written word together.

In the I Can Read It mode, if your child gets stuck on a word, they can click on it to hear it said out loud. What a great way to encourage independent reading.

Each story also has a Vocabulary Words section at the beginning of the story. This is where your child can learn the meaning of some words used in the book that they might not already know.

Bendy the worm is your child’s guide to navigating the app/website. He is a cute little worm who speaks to your child each time they open the program.

The app is easily navigated by children. You should only need to go over things once with your child, and they they can easily choose books and reading methods on their own after that.

Through the website, you can access the Parent’s Place. This is where you can monitor which books your child is reading and also see a list of words they’ve learned. Each time your child clicks on a work in the I Can Read mode, they are added to the word list.

Vocabulary Words and Definitions for Each Story

What do we think?

We really enjoy One More Story in our home. We’ve been using it primarily with my 5-year-old to had stories read at bedtime. After each story Bendy, the worm will ask if we want “one more story” and my son will always shout “YES!”

If you have a story lover in your home I highly recommend looking into this fun and engaging program!
