Many people today are earning part-time and even full-time incomes through blogging! Why shouldn’t you be one of them?
Follow these easy steps to get started with your own blog today!

1) Decide on your niche: What do you want to blog about?

Before you can start a blog you need to know what you’re going to blog about.
A good rule of thumb, if you’re hoping to earn from your blog, is to choose a niche that will help others.
Readers are more willing to visit and read your blog if it can help them in some way. Give them a reason to come to your blog.

2) Choose a domain name.

You’ll want to spend a bit of time brainstorming a blog/domain name. You may want to ask friend and family what they think of some of your name ideas. Getting an outside opinion can be very helpful and will show you how your domain name will be perceived. Next, you’ll need to check if the name is available. If not, you’ll need to try something different.

3) Pick a blogging platform.

There are many blogging platforms out there: WordPress, Blogger, and many others.
I personally use WordPress as my blogging platform. It’s very popular among the big name bloggers out there and pretty easy to use and navigate.

4) Sign up with a hosting company.

If you’re planning to earn income from your blog at any point, you will want a self-hosted blog. Advertisers, affiliate programs and readers all find a self-hosted blog to be more professional and will take you more seriously. There are a lot of hosting options available out there, many at an affordable cost too.

One of the top web hosting companies today is BlueHost and if you use my link, you can start your blog with them for only $3.95/month! You will get your domain for free if you purchase a 12 month or longer hosting plan (a $15 value).

Bluehost is what I use for my own blog and I highly recommend them for multiple reasons:

  • It is very easy to create a WordPress blog.
  • They offer great technical support.
  • Bluehost is extremely affordable. Starting at just $3.95/month.
  • You get a FREE blog domain.
  • WordPress through Bluehost is FREE.
  • Bluehost offers a guarantee in case you determine that it is not for you.
  • You will be self-hosted. If you want to monetize your blog, this is a big deal. You will appear much more professional.

So head on over to BlueHost and they will walk you through the process of purchasing your hosting and setting up your WordPress blog (it’s as simple as just pressing a button!).

5) Now you’re ready to work on your blog design and start adding content!

It’s now time to set up your basic design on WordPress and then start adding your first posts!
Don’t worry too much about the design at this point, we’ll have time to tweak it later on. You’ll want to focus mainly on your content in the beginning so that you’ll have something to show your readers and a reason for them to come back for more.

However, if you want to start with a pretty looking blog from the get-go, there are many places where you can find pre-made blog themes. One of my favorite places to find pretty themes is Restored 316.

Once you’ve set up your blog comment below to share your blog with me. I’d love to check it out and help support fellow bloggers!
