Have you been thinking about starting a blog but not sure where to start?

Many moms today are earning part-time and even full-time incomes through blogging! Why shouldn’t you be one of them?!
Let me take the guesswork out of it for you with these 5 steps to starting a mom blog. There is no time like the present!

1) Decide on your niche: What do you want to blog about?

Before you can start a blog you need to know what you’re going to write about.
A good rule of thumb, if you’re hoping to earn from your blog, is to choose a niche that will be helpful to others.
Readers are more willing to visit and read your blog if it can help them in some way. Give them a reason to cread what you have to say.

2) Choose a domain name.

You’ll want to spend a bit of time brainstorming a blog/domain name. You may want to ask friend and family what they think of some of your name ideas. Getting an outside opinion can be very helpful and will show you how your domain name will be perceived. Next, you’ll need to check if the name is available. If not, you’ll need to try something different.

3) Pick a blogging platform.

There are many blogging platforms out there: WordPress, Blogger, and many others.
I personally use WordPress as my blogging platform. It’s very popular among the big name bloggers out there and pretty easy to use and navigate.

4) Sign up with a hosting company.

If you’re planning to earn income from your blog at any point, you will want a self-hosted blog. Advertisers, affiliate programs and readers all find a self-hosted blog to be more professional and will take you more seriously. There are a lot of hosting options available out there, many at an affordable cost too.

One of the top web hosting companies today is BlueHost and if you use my link, you can start your blog with them for only $3.95/month! You will get your domain for free if you purchase a 12 month or longer hosting plan (a $15 value).

*UPDATE*
I recently switched my hosting to SiteGround and couldn’t be happier! They managed the whole switch for me at no extra cost and with no down time! SiteGround‘s hosting plans also start at only $3.95/month.

5) Now you’re ready to work on your blog design and start adding content!

It’s now time to set up your basic design on WordPress and then start adding your first posts!
You can get started right away without worrying too much about design.

However, I prefer to start off strong with a great theme and framework for my blog. That way you don’t have to worry about adding a theme later on, and your readers will have a seamless experience each time they come back to read your content.

I personally use Divi Builder for my blog. It is by far the easiest way I’ve found to get your blog looking the way you want it. I highly recommend checking out Suzi’s course on how to use Divi to the fullest. You can find her course, Theme By Number, HERE.
